Hubertus von Hohenlohe-Langenburg

Mexico had one athlete in the winter games: Hubertus von Hohenlohe-Langenburg, 51. He's a German prince. He placed 78th out of the 81 skiers who finished in the Giant Slalom (34 seconds behind the winning run). While the oldest athlete competing in Vancouver may not have won any medals, he's definitely one of the most entertaining competitors.

He designed his own outfit because he believes that most of the ski suits have no inspiration and are kind of boring. Agreed.

His approach to the Olympics:
"The main part was looking good," he said. "Having style. Don't look at the time, but have style and look good in the suit. I think I won for artistic impression. It's a pity we get no marks for that, like in figure skating."
I wish he was right about the figure skating part. If that was actually the case Johnny Weir would have won, no contest.

New ANTM Judge!

I might have to start watching America's Next Top Model, even though Tyra scares me so much. The new season (I hate that they call them cycles) starts March 10th and André Leon Talley is going to be the new judge.

I hope they coordinate all their outfits on the show.

If you haven't seen The September Issue yet, you need to watch it immediately. It'll all make sense when you see what he wears to play tennis. I can't wait to see his style on a regular basis.

Burberry Prorsum Fall 2010

154 years of fashion. The friends of Burberry were front row at the show.

Check out the video Burberry released. Don't miss Anna Wintour at 4:10. The actual show starts at 11:40.

Agatha Ruiz de la Prada Fall 2010

Don't think "Who would wear that?" That's not the point. It's supposed to fun, whimsical, and colorful.

It's fashion.

Full collection shown during 2010 Madrid Fashion Week.

BAFTAs

The BAFTAs were appropriately British this year. The best actor and actress awards went to Colin Firth for A Single Man and Carey Mulligan for An Education. I wish he'd win the Oscar too.

Kate Winslet (in Stella McCartney) and Colin Firth
They should totally do a movie together.

 Carey Mulligan in Vionnet
It's a lot of look, but like it. She was up for best actress and needed something that would make her stand out, which wasn't too hard to do this year with all the somber-looking dresses. Let's hope for more color and fun at the Oscars.

ABDC Nationals

Things are a bit different this season. The dynamics have changed without a b-boy crew in the mix. But some things will never change. Mario Lopez is as terrible of a host as ever.

I still have no idea what Omarion is going to contribute to the judging. I was completely distracted by what he was wearing and couldn't focus on anything he said. What was that sweater? Unfortunately I can't post a photo because MTV didn't put up pictures. But trust me, it was that bad.

Assuming he doesn't wear more ridiculous clothing next week, I'll be able to provide a more informed opinion. I'm skeptical though. He has some major style issues.

And I don't know how he could top Lil Mama's critique:
I respect what you do. That's why I watch so carefully.

You know what I respect?

Jungle Boogie. Loved their energy, styling, and choreography.

PR: Profoundly Wowed?

Where are ya'll mamas?

I have to agree with Anthony. I don't like children on Project Runway. That being said, I'm officially on Team Seth Aaron right now.

I loved his looks and want both of those jackets!

I hate to say it, but I can't remember anything else Janeane made this season. She broke one of the cardinal PR rules: Don't bore Nina.

Daniel Vosovic Fall 2010

I like some of the individual pieces, but I don't love the collection. It feels kind of heavy and I don't like the prints.

I don't know. It's just not that exciting.

ABDC Season 5

It's time for the new season of America's Best Dance Crew. I was completely addicted to the first two seasons, but I've since lost some of my dedication. And here's why:

Season 2
I'm still not over the premature departure of A.S.I.I.D. Loved them.

Season 3
Britney Spears challenge
Chris Brown song (Feb 2009, post-Grammys incident)

Season 4
Afroboriké
Disappointing Beyoncé and Bollywood challenges
Yet another Chris Brown song for VMA challenge

But I'm going to give it another chance this season.

Shane Sparks is out. Omarion is the new judge.

Hopefully his comments are up to ABDC standards:
Ya'll smashed it.
Ya'll the future of dance.
Y'all need to work on perfection.
Y'all put so much choreography in that piece that I really had to try to pay attention.

And finally my personal favorite (from the best judge):
You put that extra stab in the heart of a chicken.

Marc Jacobs Fall 2010

I like it all.

And I like what he said about the collection even more:

"It's refreshing to see something that isn't trying so hard to be new. There's so much striving for newness now that newness feels less new."

Rodarte Fall 2010

Yes!

Korto Momolu Fall 2010

The knits are a very nice surprise.

I don't know why I love zippers on the outside of dresses so much. I never get sick of them.

Johnny Weir is Good

I'm sure people are going to talk about it. He wore a pink corset.

Johnny Weir basically defines glitteracy- the feathers, sparkles, ruffles, and fur. The thing is it's not just stage wear; it's who he is.

And you know it's for real because he modeled in a Heatherette show.

That's why I like Johnny Weir. He doesn't care what you think because style is his master.

Plus he has Oksana's coach. Amazing.

Wish I had the Sundance Channel and could watch Be Good Johnny Weir.

Leanne Marshall Fall 2010

She was inspired by topography. It's very Leanne: soft and textural. I love the styling with the tights and the boots.

WesFeld

Gen Art's first fashion show at the start of New York Fashion Week.

Project Runway made this happen. I think Tim would be proud of Daniel and Wesley's collaboration.

Goya Awards

I didn't see any of the movies nominated for Best Picture. Los Abrazos Rotos wasn't included, although Pedro Almodóvar was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Penelope Cruz for Lead Actress. Neither of them won, which makes sense. It wasn't the greatest movie but I'd watch it again.

Penelope Cruz wore Versace. I like this look a lot for her. Better than what she's been wearing to the American award shows. Maybe there will be a repeat performance at the Oscars.

Would love to see this happen again too!

Things I miss about Spain

The coffee culture
¿Me pones un cortado, por favor?

Irina Shabayeva Fall 2010

She wasn't my favorite on the show, but her final collection was really good. I'm going to go ahead and blame the Lifetime editing. This collection is amazing. Feathers, fur, knits, and leather. Oh my wow.

Prabal Gurung Fall 2010

Christian Siriano Fall 2010

Christian showed on Friday. I really like the coats and jackets.

Oscar dress this year? Even though it's been done before, I feel like it'll show up again.

A Fashionable First Lady

Mary Todd Lincoln (1863)

I don't know a lot about her but I find her very interesting. She made it a personal mission to redecorate the White House, which apparently needed some serious style updates. Congress gave her $20,000 and she overspent by $6,858. What would Tim Gunn say about her going over budget?

She went to New York in a $900 carriage to do her shopping. If New York Fashion Week had been around back then she definitely would have been front row at every show. But it was all about Europe at that time.

She didn't care what people thought. She bought the Parisian wall paper, had custom gowns made for her, and wore fancy jewelry no matter what it cost.

Inaugural gown and another gown (1861)

Washington and Lincoln Day

Washington Crossing the Delaware (1851) Emanuel Leutze

Do you ever wonder what George Washington sounded like? Not that it really matters, but I've always been curious if he had some variation on a British accent.

Which one is it?
A. Presidents Day
B. President's Day
C. Presidents' Day

I would have chosen A. but apparently it's none of the above. It's Washington's Birthday.

I guess it's not officially Lincoln's day.

PR: The Greatest Prize?

I'm happy that Anthony won. Can't you just see Heidi wearing this?

But I think I like Ben's better.

I'm glad they finally decided to focus on the clothes again, but I still miss Bravo. Why have the previews for the next episode turned into mini Lifetime movies?

And why did they time the airing of this season so that 10 designers showed at NY Fashion Week? Maybe they should have had all 16 designers present collections. Don't you wonder what Ping would have come up with?
